The Cardiac Rehab program at PVMC is an individualized program comprised of exercise, education and nutrition to help participants achieve their optimal level of physical, psychological, spiritual, vocational and social health.
We offer a comprehensive approach to early outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation. Our rehabilitation team consists of a medical director, program director, respiratory therapist, physical therapist, registered nurse, pharmacist, social worker, registered dietician, and psychologist (by referral).
About the Program
Participants are referred by their physician and screened prior to treatment. Upon approval, patients are invited to register for the program (how long is the program) that meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Times are scheduled on an individual basis.
Education and exercise are focal points of the program.
During each exercise session a registered nurse or an exercise specialist monitors blood pressure, pulse oximeter, heart rate, rate of perceived exertion, and telemetry. Different modes of exercise are available and participants follow a set routine consisting of warm-up, aerobic workout, resistance training, and cool-down.
Educational topics, such as nutrition, are taught during exercise and other essential subjects are offered outside exercise sessions. Participation in education classes is a program requirement. Participants can expect to attend a nutrition class, stress management class, cholesterol management class, exercise and your heart class, and smoking cessation. These classes are designed for both the patient and their family member. Family involvement and attending all classes is vital for success in the program.Upon completion of the Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program, patients may choose to exercise in our personally-designed maintenance program or continue with treatment on their own.If you would like to register for our Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Program, please consult your physician for a referral or call our office directly for more information.
